“Yeah sure. I live in a nuclear
family of 4 members and all of us are very close and love each other
very much. My Dad and my Mom are both workers. I also have a younger
brother. He’s 18 years old and in preparation to the college. He bears a
remarkable resemblance to my mother. We live in a lovely house in the
west of my country. I have two grandparents as well, but they don’t live
with us.”
Trở lại với dạng câu hỏi trần thuật, “could you tell me about st.”.
nuclear family
gia đình nhỏ (từ 1-2 thế hệ)
in preparation to st.
chuẩn bị cho
bear a remarkable resemblance to sb.
giống ai đó
2. What kind of things do you and your family do together?
“There’s a lot of thing that we do
together. My whole family always gather at dinner and discuss various
types of stuff. I often take advice on important things from my parents,
and sometime my little brother too. My parents often discuss their
experience, tell us history and often teach us morality and importance
of being honest in life. We also do our gardening together, you know
watering, manuring and weeding the plants …and a lot of other stuff I
cannot list out enough.”

“If I were to choose between the
two, I’ll go with my family because in many ways, my family are my
friends and they are the ones who will stay with me all my life, whereas
I don’t actually meet my friends very often, you know although yeah
sometimes I have more fun with my friends because they are closer to my
age, I still tend to prefer hanging out with my family.”

“If you asked me that question when I
was at junior high, it would be totally different point of view. I
mean, my parents, they had a list of things that they thought I need to
become, and that I need to better myself and all, always compared me to
another kids but it’s just like the story of the last decade. Now, when
I’m being more mature, I understand them well, I get on with my parents
wonderfully. They are easy to talk to, kind-hearted and I trust them
completely coz I know my parents always want best things to me.”

5. Is family very important to you?
“Of course it is. Family is the most
important thing in the world to me. It’s the only thing that never
turns back on me and it’s really all I have in the long run. Once I grew
up and moved out and away, I more realized how important they are. I’ve
been through some very painful times and I do not know what I would do
without their love, support and strength as if they’re always be there
for me. I remember the song named “You always find the way back home”.
Wherever you go, whoever you become, you can always find the way back
with your lovely family.”
bài hát có tên “You always find the way back home”.
Cứ “firstly – secondly” rồi liệt kê lý do thôi.

remains unchanged coz it’s the best now. Although I also wanna live in
an extend family then family members can support and foster each other
but I’m a bit worried about generation gaps which might lead to some
unnecessary arguments, you know. And it cannot be smaller coz we’re
already complete.”

2. Sample Answer
“I am going to talk about a family
that is possibly one of the most incredible home that I’ve met. The
family that I will mention in this speech is of my mom’s best friend
whose name is Linh.
Well, I already knew them for a long
time ago, probably 6 years ago, however, we’ve just got in so deeper
relationship since last year when I first lived far away from my home
town to do the bachelor degree in Hanoi. They were the one who
spontaneously adopted me during the time I finished my sophomore. That’s
why I highly respected them as my second parents.
It is obviously a very small family,
I mean a nuclear family including only four members: Linh, her husband
and two of their children. I’ve always considering Linh and her husband
my second parents as I mentioned cuz they definitely regarded me as
their own son. Linh is such a dedicated woman, I reckon. As a doctor,
she often took care of my health condition and other family members as
well. In addition, Linh is so different from many others, I mean the way
she taught her children was so spectacular. Never spanked any of her
son, but they’ve always obeyed whatever she told. Speaking of her
husband, he is a forgiving father and a humorous dad. He would forgive
any our wrongdoings with the condition that I and his sons have to fix
them. He also gave us many hilarious moments when making fun of his
wife. I am also in a very good harmony with two of their sons. We are
just like brothers. Although they are incredibly mischievous, they are
so cute and obedient.
If I still have time, I would like
to talk about the reasons why I love this family so much. Probably,
those little characteristics of each person mentioned above made me
admire them. But more importantly, they are so big-hearted cuz their
door is always open. That’s why to me, they set a good example of
welcoming.”

PART III 1. In a typical Vietnamese family, who plays the leading role? “There is a saying that “Men build the house and women make it
home”. I think this is still appropriate today, at least in my country
even though women are no longer discriminated. I mean it is true that
some men nowadays are increasingly likely to take on the role of
househusband and more women than ever become the breadwinners in their
families but when looking at a typical Vietnamese family, men are still
the ones who play the leading role, I think. I mean the father, other
than taking responsibility of a breadwinner, he is always the protector,
a strong presence leading his children and his wife to feel safe and
securely protected. He’s also a mechanic, a mender, a light fixer, a
plumber who is ready to repair broken furniture and machine in the
family that his wife can’t do .Especially, a true father is an
energetic, dynamic, determined and disciplined model for his children to
follow and feel confident when they come to the world. Besides, he also
forms in his children the attitudes and powers that they need to
succeed in life, protect themselves and their family later”

2. In Vietnam, what kinds of family members usually live together? “Well I think it actually depends, you know. In cultures where
the nuclear family is the norm for establishing a household, members of
the extended family live in separate homes, often at significant
distances. In societies where the joint family predominates for living
arrangements, members of the extended family will live in the same home.
In Vietnam, you can see both. I mean the former is often applied for
urban area, a family with parents and their children although in many
case a grandparent or both grandparents from either the wife or husband
will join them to take care of their baby. And extended family can be
seen at mountainous area with the presence of ethnic minorities where
almost all members who are blood relatives live together”

3. Should young and middle-age people live with old people? “In my opinion, youngsters and elderly people should spend more
time together, yeah I mean even live together. People should shoulder
the responsibility to take care of their elderly parents who has been
willing to sacrifice everything for them. In addition, sharing home
together will strengthen their relationship, bridge generation gap, not
to mention the moment given for grandparents to get along with their
grandchildren, educate them with priceless experience and knowledge
which can never be learned from any theoretical sources. All of those
things will bring a happy family atmosphere that should be had in every
households, I think”
Từ vựng :
shoulder the responsibility
Chịu trách nhiệm
sacrifice
Hi sinh
strengthen the relationship
Thắt chặt mối quan hệ
bridge generation gap
Thu hẹp khoảng cách thế hệ
4. How do grandparents educate their grandchildren in your country? “Firstly, as grandparents have lived for many years and have
brought up their own offspring, they have much experience in raising and
educating children. For instance, they might tell their own period
stories to shape morality perception in their grandchildren. Secondly,
grandparents are family members who tend to spend much more time, effort
and love with their grandchildren than their parents can’t do because
they are too worried and busy with their career, their jobs so valuable
lessons learned from their grandparents are even more worth Finally,
youngsters looked after by their grandparents are likely to become more
family-oriented and appreciate the value of a happy family”
